The Goal of this evening is to share a collection of independent short movies from Palestine  to give them a real opportunity to reach the world. These films tell the full truth about Palestine, without any interference from biased filmmakers and without any control over the Palestinian narrative. All of these films are interconnected; they reflect the life of the Palestinian family the imprisoned, the exiled, the dead inside the refrigerator of death, the checkpoints, hunger, life, and hope. They are all fragments of Palestinian family life.

By bringing these films together, the filmmakers aim to guide the global audience’s perspective toward what is not shown in capitalist cinema, biased cinema, or cinema driven by fundraising rather than truth. This is not the cinema of red carpets, but real cinema that must reach the audience directly from the filmmaker. Collecting these films is a new challenge and a difficult journey, but we trust that the global audience will do justice to the narrative, learn more, and discover filmmakers who carry hope and lived experiences. Our mission at this moment is to begin a new approach and a new method that allows global audiences to reach these young filmmakers and their films without control or the minimization of their stories.

During the evening, we will go into dialogue with each other about the themes of the short-movies, to also ask what is it we can do in solidarity to support independent movies to hopefully liberate Palestine from the zionist occupation and genocide. It is possible to buy food at the location and eat.

Background and information on the short movies and filmmakers

My Crutch (Okkazti) bu Ahmad Hamad is a 3 -minutes Since I was born the moments of war were present. Children were and still victims of conflicts between countries and wrestling parties. As a Palestinian director I couldn’t be apart of the humanitarian message that I hold and I want to deliver to the world. I got the idea of the film from a photo that I saw on the internet. The photo is a young girl that is cuddling her father’s leg. The photo attracted me, and the ideas started to come back and forth, I started to live the feeling of this girl in my mind. I tried from this short film to deliver my message to the world. Children do not have to be victims and hold the responsibility of faults that they have not done. By contrast, children have the right to live their childhood and get their full rights.

Ahmad Hamad: is a cinematographer. He studied at Dar al Kalemah. He holds grand Prizes, one of them for BEST HUMANITARIAN Film Short World Film Festival in Cannes France 2024 Jury Prize Al Dakhiliyah International Film Festival Oman2023 Best Documentary at the Sous International Festival. The other prize is for "Best Short documentary" at Karama Festival of Human Rights Films. In addition, he works in the film industry and production independently. He worked on directing and producing many short films. His interests lie in the Human cases, while he believes in the power of the camera as an advocate to deliver the voice of unfortunate people. He also believes that the key to success lies in the team work.

“The Refrigerator” by Adnan Al Bobali  is a 6 minutes  short film that carries within its five minutes an enduring pain that transcends time and place. It portrays one of the most inhumane practices of the Israeli occupation: the detention of Palestinian martyrs’ bodies in morgue freezers since 2015 until today. The number of withheld bodies exceeds 120 martyrs, not including those from the recent massacres in Gaza, whose fate remains unknown under the ongoing war of extermination.

Adnan Al Bobali :Actor, director, and playwright/filmmaker; video editor and visual content creator; trainer in several fields, most notably the art of debate and drama. Founder and director of Rasael Theater, medical clown with the international Red Noses Foundation, and cultural centers program coordinator at Nablus Municipality.

“Survivor” by Ehab Ghafri is an 11-minute short film that carries in its brief runtime a shock that transcends time and space. The film takes us on a wild journey between drama and documentary, between reality and imagination, revealing how a person lives with those they love in their mind, as if they were still alive, long after the guns have fallen silent. The film sheds light on survivors, on their hidden psychological wounds, and on the presence of loved ones in memory as if they were alive. Even on a zero budget, “Survivor” proves that a story can break the rules and create an unconventional cinematic experience, showing that love and memory are stronger than death.
